Intramural Basketball – 2007/2008 Season
Rules for 3rd and
4th grade boys and girls league(s)
Duration of game: Four (4) ten (10) minute quarters of
running time. Time stops every 5 minutes to allow a lineup
change. If the lineups take longer than 30 seconds the clock will be
restarted. If games are running long, the League has the authority
to shorten games.
Scoring: Score to be re-set to
zero (0) after each quarter.
Basketball size: 28.5 inches.
(Women’s)
Defense: Man-to-Man defense.
Zone defense is not allowed.
Double- teaming is not allowed.
NO defensive switching.
Playing time: All players must play at least
half of each game.
It is in the spirit of St
Anthony’s CYO to give all players equal playing time.
Time: In backcourt-10 seconds to
bring ball over half-court.
In bounds- 5 seconds to bring
ball into play.
Between quarters- 1 minute.
Halftime- 2 minutes.
Time-outs: No Timeouts.
Substitutions: Minimize substitutions to maintain
the flow of the game. It is suggested that substitutions take place
halfway through each quarter. (5 minutes in)
Line Up: Allowed before the start of
each quarter and upon substitutions. The clock will run if
match-ups take too long.
Drop Back Rule: Defensive team MUST drop back.
Drop back to the top of the key in larger gyms. (St Anthony’s)
Drop back to the foul line in smaller gyms. (Elementary schools)
Fast breaks: Fast breaks are not allowed.
Fouls:
Referee’s will call and explain fouls as necessary. Coaches will
provide instruction on proper play.
Free throw distance: Players shoot from the bottom of the
key. (approx. 12’)
General rules: A Team must have minimum of four
(4) players to avoid a forfeit.
All coaches and
players must arrive 15 minutes before each game. In the event the
coach is responsible for opening the gym, the coach should arrive 30
minutes prior to the game to ensure the gym is setup for the game.
A coach should NOT
receive a Technical Foul. The CYO Board will determine appropriate
disciplinary action in the unlikely event a coach receives a
Technical Foul.
Referee’s may eject a
coach from a game and/or facility.
Coaches who are
unable to control conduct of parents should IMMEDIATELY contact
their league coordinator.
Coaches will make
themselves aware of the responsibilities of the opening and closing
of gyms.
Immediately notify
your League Coordinator when a player is consistently missing games
and/or practices.
Only a coach and one
assistant coach are allowed to sit with the Players.
Only the coach is
allowed to talk to the referee.
